Pu Luong Nature Reserve is located in the mountainous districts of Ba Thuoc and Quan Hoa in the western part of Thanh Hoa province, bordering Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh). It is about 170 km from Hanoi and 130 km from Thanh Hoa City, so you can go to Pu Luong for two weekends or have more time then combine to Mai Chau - Pu Luong.

How to get to Pu Luong?
From Hanoi, to Pu Luong you can choose to ride a motorbike, bus, car or drive as you like. However, the road is not difficult to go, so motorbikes are the most suitable means for traveling to Pu Luong, helping you move flexibly between attractions. The road for cars or private motorbikes is usually from Hanoi along Highway 6 to Hoa Binh. Then choose one of the two turn roads is through Lung Van valley, or through Ban Lac, Mai Chau and then to Pu Luong.

Take a passenger car to pick up your car at Giap Bat station or Yen Bai means choose Hanoi - Ba Thuoc - Thanh Hoa route with the fare of 180,000 VND per person. Back to Canh Nang town (Ba Thuoc, Thanh Hoa), continue taking a motorbike taxi or eco cab to Pu Luong from 250k / trip

If departing from Thanh Hoa City, go up to the Northwest, follow the Ho Chi Minh trail, turn right in Cam Thuy town, you will encounter 15C Street in Canh Nang town, then go about 10 km more is to the bottom of Pu Luong mountain.

Taking a bus from Thanh Hoa City to Canh Nang town, you can catch a bus at the West Bus Station of the city with two hours of 8am, 12pm, 2h, 4h.45.

Where to stay?
At present, Pu Luong has many new accommodation places to serve the diverse needs of tourists, from traveling alone, in groups of friends or family. In addition to a rare resort, Pu Luong HillSide Lodge, which is often crowded with booking rooms, homestays in the villages or hostels around the reserve are also good options.

What to eat?
Pu Luong  have specialties such as grilled fish, roasted chicken, roasted Co Lung duck, marinated pork chopped off the grill, boiled jasmine, sour bamboo soup, or fried bamboo with guise leaves ...

Especially, Co Lung duck dish, just ready-made duck meat, outdoor grill, herbs and a little beer, you will have a delicious drinking party. Duck meat is delicious, soft and fragrant, grilled with charcoal, and costs about 450,000 VND each for 3-4 people to eat.

Where to go?


The name Pu Luong in Thai means the highest peak of the village. It also owns the peak of Pu Luong, 1,700 m high, which is a trekking point that attracts many tourists. It takes about 6-8 hours in good weather to reach the top. So you can choose to set up camp on the top to eat and rest overnight and the next day down the mountain. Looking down from the top of Pu Luong peak, you will gain a complete view of the valley's spectacular scenery.

Coming to Pu Luong, no one will skip Pho Don market. The market meets every Thursday and Sunday. Coming here, you can not only experience the highland market but also buy souvenirs from brocade fabric and especially discover local products and specialties such as sweet, salty donuts, cool melon cats, fruits, vegetables ...

Villages such as Hieu, Don, Kho Muong ... are also places to visit once in Pu Luong. That place has peaceful stilt houses located close to each other, mountains and hills, surrounded by terraced fields, though not stretching to the horizon like Mu Cang Chai, but still has a unique beauty.

Located next to the rice field in Kho Muong village, there is also a cave of the same name, which is the largest and most beautiful cave in the cave population discovered in Pu Luong. However, exploring the cave must have the right tools because the road to the cave is quite difficult to go.
Deep in the core of Pu Luong, this place is famous for Hieu waterfall, located in Hieu village, which attracts many tourists. The waterfall is not high but the water flows into many low and wide floors. Healthy people can swim upstream to visit, but if you want to take a bath, walk along the path along the water. The further down, the more waterfall water, clear blue and form the natural pool, more spacious.
